Representatives from the Calhoun High School senior class presented the Board of Education with the plans for this year’s senior class trip at the March board meeting last Tuesday.
The seniors are planning to go to Branson, Mo., in May and gave details for what the weekend would include as well as information on fundraisers to help cover costs like the upcoming Cardinal ticket fundraiser.
Athletic Director Brian Lee also spoke to the board at the top of the meeting and said hosting regional and sectional games went great during the winter sports season.
“Everybody stepped up and we got a lot of compliments,” Lee said and noted that they got about $3,000 from ticket sales at the gate, not including concession sales.
Lee also told the board that both Coach Mark Hillen and Coach Rod Hart have been nominated for Coach of the Year of awards.
Superintendent Andrea Lee provided the expected costs of shifting the schools to LED lighting. After a discussion with the company, Green Edison, Lee found that upgrades would cost about $6,000 to switch to LED after rebates. She also provided the board with some information she’s been gathering on solar energy and the possibility of the district using solar panels.
In other business, the board approved the IHSA and IESA renewal agreements, amendments to the school calendar, and a special board meeting for personnel in April.
The next regular school board meeting will be held on Tuesday, April 25, with the special meeting taking place on Tuesday, April 18.
