Winchester Alderman Bill Jacquot, who is also a member of the Winchester Pool Committee gave his report to the Winchester City Council at their May 3 meeting.
“We are planning on opening the pool Memorial Day weekend Saturday, May 27,” Jacquot said. “It will close on Aug. 13 with a cleanup day on Aug. 14 and it was decided that we will be open on the Fourth of July this year. Pool hours will be 11:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.”
The Pool Committee accepted applications for the positions of pool manager, assistant manager and for lifeguards until April 28. Those positions were filled at the May 1 pool committee meeting.
Chosen to fill those positions were: Rian Neff as manager at $15 an hour; Marissa Galloway as Assistant Manager at $14 an hour and the following individuals as lifeguards at $13 an hour – London Adams Emy Coonrod, Olivia Bingeman, Isabella Summers, Kaylee Hamilton and William Mason. Levi Adams was hired as a Jr. Lifeguard.
Brylee Lawson was recommended for hire as a lifeguard pending certification and Charles Smith, Carson Gregory and Aidan Myers were recommended for hire as jr. lifeguards pending their certification.
The pool board is working on a plan for swim lessons as well as a plan on water aerobics for the months of June and July.
Pool prices will remain the same as last year. Daily rates are as follows: Ages 0-4 are free with a paid adult; ages 5 and up is $5 and senior citizens over the age of 65 is $3.
Pool passes are based on a tiered system with a maximum of six on any one pass and those names must be listed on the pass. An individual person is $125 and the first additional person is an additional $50 and each additional person after that is an extra $25. A pool pass with six individuals on it will cost $275.
They also have a punch card which can be used for multiple people. A punch card can be purchased for $40 for 10 visits.
Pool parties are $150 with a maximum of 30 swimming patrons. Each additional person is an extra $1.25 per person. Party times are from 6:30 to 8:30. A renter’s contract must be signed by the renter and manager. The pool board recommends putting guards in chairs if the attendance exceeds 20 patrons. If the number does not exceed 20, lawn chairs placed where the majority of patrons are is fine.
Jacquot said things will look a bit different at the pool this year thanks to Molly Traw, who put in an application and was awarded a 16 by 19 foot sunshade, which will be installed at the concession stand.
“The city crew is working with the facility out there expanding the concession area to accommodate that sunshade,” Jacquot said. “They are moving the fence on the north side of the concession stand north about 12 feet and extending the sidewalk about 12 feet and putting in two posts to raise the level of the sunshade. It will be attached to the building at two points. It is going to look really nice.”
