The Village of Hardin approved an intergovernmental agreement with Calhoun County at the Village Board’s June meeting.
The intergovernmental agreement will allow progress to start on updates to Poor Farm Hollow Road.
Kyle Godar said the village has $190,000 in funds for construction and $60,000 for preliminary engineering, and the county having $180,000 solely for construction.
The intergovernmental agreement allows the county and village to reimburse each other for certain cost, to help ensure the projects completion Godar said.
“The village is hiring Heneghen as preliminary engineer,” Godar said. “Once you’re $60,000 is expended on engineering, when the bills come in, send them to me and the county will reimburse the village for the engineering to get it completed. Then when it comes to construction, the county will go out for bids to hire a contractor to build the project, and it will kind of work in reverse.”
In other new business, the board heard concerns about the impact river front events may have on local businesses.
Bud Matthews said the outside food trucks and vendors at the events are having a negative impact on local businesses during event days.
“The event itself, I think its great that you’re trying to bring people in to Hardin for an event,” he said. “But to line the streets with vendors is the opposite effect on businesses.”
“I can tell you in the businesses eye it’s not profitable for us,” he added. “It’s basically taking a Saturday away, and we don’t get that Saturday back.”
“He has a very legitimated complaint,” board member JD Lorton said while noting that the city of Grafton doesn’t allow food trucks for similar reasons.
The board agreed to add the issue to the July agenda to decide on how to handle future events in regard to vendors and food trucks.
The next board meeting is scheduled for Monday, July 10, at 6 p.m.
