Last week’s storm on June 28 brought high winds and large hail and it also brought down a number of trees around Greene County. Many of the larger, older trees who succumbed to the weather were rotten inside, as can be seen from these photos. Both Rainey Park in Carrollton and Lions Park in White Hall lost some very old trees in the storm.

This was the largest and probably the oldest tree in Rainey Park. The winds simply snapped it like it was a twig. It can’t be seen too well in this particular photo, but it was completely hollow in the center.

This huge tree fell in Lions Park. The Lions Club can thank their lucky stars that the wind wasn’t blowing towards the concession stand because the tree was right in line to take out the concession stand. It too was hollow in the center.

This tree was located at the home located on the corner of Cemetery and Brooklane. Not sure if it was struck by lightning, but it looks as if it was just sliced down the middle. A few days later the entire tree was taken down.
