Organizers are encouraging residents to participate in Winchester’s 4th Annual Walk to End Alzheimer’s on Saturday, Sept. 9, from 9-11 a.m.
Winchester’s Walk to End Alzheimer’s coincides with the nationwide Walk to End Alzheimer’s initiative. Collectively, the Walk to End Alzheimer’s is the world’s largest fundraiser for Alzheimer’s care, support and research.
Held annually, the nationwide Alzheimer’s Association Walk to End Alzheimer’s takes place in more than 600 communities across the country.
Alzheimer’s walks are held to raise critical funds that allow the Alzheimer’s Association to provide 24/7 care and support and advance research toward methods of prevention, treatment and, ultimately, a cure.
Winchester’s Alzheimer’s Walk organizers encourage residents to come stroll around the square with friends to raise money for Alzeimer’s research and care. Goody bags will be available to the first 50 adults and 24 children.
In addition to the walk itself, Winchester’s Walk to End Alzheimer’s will feature family-friendly activities and attractions – including pumpkin painting, llamas, and door prizes. According to the event’s Facebook page, all proceeds will go to the Illinois Alzheimer’s Association to promote Alzheimer’s awareness, education, training, and research.
Prior to the walk, Winchester Walk to End Alzheimer’s organizers are selling eight-inch potted purple mums, white mums, or purple asters for $15. To purchase a plant, contact Pam Hembrough before August 31 to reserve a plant. Pre-payment is requested by way of Venmo, cash, or check.
The flowers will be displayed around the Winchester Square (Douglas Park) the morning of the Walk to End Alzheimer’s on Saturday, September 9. Flowers are to be picked up the morning of the Walk. Proceeds from the sale of the plants go to the Springfield office of the Illinois Alzheimer’s Association to finance Alzheimer’s education, awareness, training, and research.
