The opening ceremonies for the 2023 New Canton Harvest Festival will kick off the annual event at 6 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 8.
According to New Canton Harvest Festival contact Niki Malone, the opening ceremonies will feature a performance of the National Anthem by members of the Western School District band. In addition, Grand Parade marshals will be recognized.
Friday evening will also feature a pork chop dinner from 6-8 p.m. and live music from El Dara’s Shattered Image from 6:30-9:30 p.m.
Saturday, Sept. 9, will feature a day full of Harvest Festival activities.
Registration for the Baby Contest will open at 8:30 a.m., and the contest will start at 9 a.m. Age categories for the Baby Contest are Prince/Princess (3-4 years), Toddler (13 months-2 years), and Baby (0-12 months).
All contestants in the Baby Contest must reside in the Western School District. Prizes will be awarded in each age category for:
• Prettiest eyes;
• Best dressed;
• Most hair;
• Least hair;
• Happiest.
Registration for the pet show opens at 9:30 a.m. The pet show begins at 10 a.m. According to Malone, all types of pets are welcome.
Following the pet show, the festival’s Grand Parade will take place at 1 p.m.
Other Saturday activities include live music by Tim Hart at 2-6 p.m., and the Firemen’s Chicken Dinner will take place in the shelter house from 5-7 p.m.
Bringing the 2023 New Canton Harvest Festival to close will be the event’s pageants, which start at 7 p.m. Winners of pageants will be crowned Little Mr./Miss New Canton, Junior Miss New Canton, and Miss New Canton.
