Elle Sanderson, a seventh grader at Pikeland Community School and the daughter of Jim and Tiffany Sanderson of Pittsfield, competed last Thursday, Sept. 14 in the The IESA Girls State Golf Finals.
Elle Sanderson shot a career best 85 last week in the The IESA Girls State Golf Finals that were held last in Metamora at Metamora Fields Golf Club. The junior high golfers splayed the women’s tees at the challenging course that had a yardage of 4,939.The score was good enough to get Sanderson into the Top 10 junior high golfers in the state. Sanderson started on hole #10 and shot a 43 on her first nine holes and carded a 42 on holes 1-9 for a total of 85 which was a career best for Sanderson. The highlight of the day came on her 17th hole where she had a birdie on the 156-yard par 3
“I qualified by finishing eighth in the section meet at Springfield,” the golfer said. “I was unaware I was in the top 10 at state until I finished my match.”
IESA golf has only one class and Sanderson was competing against other golfers from bigger communities with more golf courses. Sanderson played in several events during the summer. She was coached by her mom, Tiffany Sanderson, a former Lady Saukee golf course. Her father, Jim, helped also.
This is the first year for junior high golf at Pikeland Community School, so Sanderson’s, success is a first for every thing.
