Harvest is upon us, and for farmers to keep up their energy, they need nutritious meals. Rather than an apple, sandwich, chips, and cookie, come learn how to create meals for the field that incorporate various foods and taste-test a few different recipes! University of Illinois Extension and Calhoun County Farm Bureau are partnering to talk about and make nutritious meals for the field during harvest season! Meals with fiber, protein, and fat will digest slowly and help farmers and workers feel fuller for longer.
Meal for the Field will be from 5:30 to 7 p.m. on October 10 at the Calhoun County Extension Office. Class participants will learn how to create healthy meals for the field, quick grab-and-go meals, receive a variety of mason jar recipes, unique recipes designed to keep farmers and their families full during harvest, and how to keep food safe.
“Using mason jars for meals, switching sandwiches for wraps, or taking advantage of fruit pouches are just a few ways to add fun to creating easy meals that will keep farmers full and energized during harvest,” says Lisa Peterson, nutrition and wellness educator. “This class is a great opportunity to practice making quick and healthy meals, get ideas for switching up the meals for the field, and learn about keeping the whole family well fed.”
The class costs $10, and register through the Calhoun County Farm Bureau at 618-576-2233
