Stephen Bridges is a mild-mannered husband and father by day, but at night his alter ego – the sinister Doc Flowers comes out to play – at least during the Halloween season.
Don’t worry, no need to lock your doors, Bridges alter ego is limited to the confines of 217 Terror Haunted House in Roodhouse where he plays the character of Doc Flowers – the insane doctor.
Bridges has entered his character in a contest to become the next “Face of Horror”. It is a nationwide contest to win a photoshoot with the original Jason Vorhees (Kane Hodder) along with an article in the magazine Rue Morgue and a cool $13,000.
Bridges saw the contest on Facebook and decided to enter. He is currently in second place and voting ends on Friday, Oct. 13.
The easiest way to vote is to go to Doc Flowers Facebook Page where Bridges has a link to vote.
It was Bridges’ curiosity that led him to 217 Terror and to ultimately create Doc Flowers.
“I originally got involved with 217 Terror to see what the haunted house was like,” he said. “I instantly fell in love. My character is Doc Flowers, which is an old nickname I was given about 15 years ago.”
The haunted house is owned by Adam and Christina Cathers who had a hand in creating the character.
“The character was thought up about three years ago with the help of Adam Cathers,” Bridges said. “He is supposed to be the insane doctor for Rage the Asylum. Since my character’s inception, he has grown to be more sinister and better every year.”
The haunted house opened this past weekend and people flock to it every year. Bridges was asked what he thought the attraction of haunted houses was.
“I think it is the scare factor and the adrenaline rush that people like,” he said. “It lets them experience the scary, gory, alternative side of life. They love our haunted house because there is something different every year. We are always changing. All of us consider ourselves professional and take what we do very seriously. Thanks to Mad Molly, BoBo the Clown, Bubbles the Clown and Adam and Tina Cathers, my character has evolved and so has theirs.”
217 Terror Haunted House is open every Friday, Saturday and Sunday through October.
