AMY BAUMGARTNER FATLIN
By Carmen Ensinger
A candle light vigil is being held on Oct. 14 at 6 p.m. at the Greene County Courthouse in Carrollton for a Greene County woman who has been missing since the middle of July.
Amy Baumgartner Faltin, 39, was reported missing to the Greene County Sheriff’s Department on July 12. She is 39 years old, stands 5 foot tall and weighs approximately 140 pounds. Faltin is rather easy to recognize as she has a very prominent tatoo on the left side of her face.
She is the daughter of Larry and Linda Baumgartner of Carrollton who last spoke to their daughter on July 7 and say they didn’t even learn of her disappearance until five days after she was reported missing.
Faltin had been living at the home of Herschel Giberson, east of Carrollton. He notified, by text message, Linda Baumgartner that her daughter was missing on July 17.
Apparently, Faltin had left the home without her purse, cell phone or medications. Linda Baumgartner said her daughter has never gone more than a week without contacting her and even without her cell phone she thinks she would have found someone who did have a cell phone and managed to contact her.
Unfortunately, not much attention was given to her disappearance, even though the family was desperate for answers until two months later when the case was turned over to the Major Crimes Unit of the Illinois State Police’s Division of Criminal Investigation.
They were in Greene County in mid-September, searching the area where Faltin was last known to have been seen with K-9 units. The family said they found nothing.
According to “The Victim’s Voice” a true crime podcast, who featured Faltin’s story on Sept. 22, the family tried to put together search parties themselves, but were asked to hold off by authorities.
The case has not been picked up by any media outlets at all. There were a couple small articles stating she was missing and giving her description, but there are those who think that because of Faltin’s addiction and substance abuse problems that her case was not given the attention it deserved when she was first reported missing.
Regardless, Amy Baumgartner Faltin will have been missing for three months on Oct. 14 when her family, friends and anyone else who wishes to join, them will gather at the Greene County Courthouse to light a candle and say a prayer for Amy’s safe return or for justice for those who caused her harm.
If you have any information on her whereabouts or what happened to her, please contact ISP Special Agent Thomas Miller at 314-384-9694. Or leave an anonymous tip with Two Rivers Crime Stoppers at 800-300-2590.
