White Hall residents will be getting an early Christmas present this year in the form of lower gas rates – much lower gas rates.
The City of White Hall recently received notice from the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) that Opinion 885A has been ordered by FERC, which will provide for lower transportation rates charged by Panhandle Eastern Pipeline to the city.
These rates will be 70 to 75 percent lower than those charged by Panhandle since March of 2020. In 2020, Panhandle raised their rates by 300 to 400 percent. Municipalities like White Hall went from paying 50 cents per dekatherm to $1.50 per dekatherm.”
Natural gas customers should keep in mind that the rates are lower for the transportation of the gas with the commodity cost determined by the cost of gas on the monthly basis.
Therefore, the city will be able to immediately lower gas rates to the citizens of White Hall by 33 to 35 percent with the gas used by its customers in October. This reduction will lower annual gas costs to the average residential customer an average of $300 to $350.
