Members of the Carrollton Ministerial Alliance, made up of members of area churches of all denominations, work throughout the year to coordinate events which will be enjoyed by all people who choose to attend. All denominations are welcome, and most local church leaders participate as their schedules permit.
One of the highlights of the Christmas season is the placement of the Nativity scene in the front yard of the Carrollton Public Library.
“After years of faithful service from our old Nativity set, Alliance members this past summer upgraded our large display,” Alliance member Larry Gillingham said. “This new display will be put up by volunteers beginning with a lunch at the Lutheran Church at noon on Sunday, Nov. 26 after which we will go over and begin putting up the Nativity.”
Later that same day, in the evening, the 40th Annual Carrollton Community Carol Sing will be held in the sanctuary of the Carrollton United Methodist Church, beginning at 7 p.m.
“Groups and musicians from various churches in the area will perform their own special Christmas numbers,” Gillingham said. “As always, a highlight of the evening will be the audience participation singing favorite carols, accompanied by the Church’s 100-year-old pipe organ and newer grand piano.”
It is the perfect way to kick off the holiday season and the birth of Christ.
“People of the area are blessed with many opportunities to attend and volunteer their talents, sharing in Christian fellowship at their own churches and at ecumenical events, including those mentioned here,” Gillingham said. “These particular activities honor and celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ and everyone is invited to attend.
There is no charge to attend and no offerings will be taken up. These events are gifts for everyone to enjoy and are offered with open hearts, open minds and open doors.
