The Greenfield Public Library is proud to announce that they received word that they are the recipient of a $5,000 Tracy Family Foundation Grant.
“This grant will enable us to provide more opportunities to promote early literacy skills, both at the library and in homes,” Library Board President Amy Turpin said. “We will do this through programming, family events and incentives and a variety of other ways.”
Part of the $5,000 grant will be used to bring exciting family programming to the library.
“Some things being considered are traveling theater troupes, magicians, science programs, animal presenters and more,” Turpin said. “These programs typically cost anywhere from $200 to $500, so we are really looking forward to providing at least two during the coming year.”
The library’s new Move and Groove program will begin in January. Pam Painter, a retired elementary school teacher, will be leading the program on Fridays from 10 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.
“The focus of this program will be on our youngest patrons – the zero-to three-year-olds,” Turpin said. “It is all about sounds, rhythm, music and exploration. All new materials and equipment are being ordered for this.”
It has been proven that those things all help children become better readers as they get older. Turpin urges everyone to help spread the word so families can begin to make plans for their children to attend.
“Look for more to come about new events, but we want you to know our goals are not just to ‘check out books,’” Turpin said. “We want to keep bringing more families into the library to learn, explore, create, sing, dance, read, play and promote early literacy skills along the way.”
Turpin wanted to give special thanks to Tiffany Reiser Holland for helping to make the grant possible for the Greenfield Public Library and to Tracy Family Foundation for making the grant available.
