The Outreach Community Center collected toys and other gift items during its Pack the Truck with Toys event this past Saturday. The items will be distributed to 506 children who registered for the Center’s Annual Christmas Giveaway.
The Outreach Community Center’s Marsh Mayner was overwhelmed with the amount of donations received during the organization’s Pack the Truck with Toys event, which was held during the Winchester Hometown Christmas Celebration on December 2 in front of the Outreach Center, located at 31 South Main Street in Winchester.
“Between the toys and monetary donations, it was a very good day,” Mayner said.
During the Pack the Truck event, the Outreach Center collected new toys and items for kids ranging in age from infants to high schoolers. The toys and items collected during the Pack the Truck event will be distributed to children during the Outreach Center’s Annual Christmas Giveaway on Dec. 15.
Mayner indicated that the number of donations during the Pack the Truck with Toys far outpaced her expectations for the event.
“We collected more than we ever thought that we would,” Mayner said. “We started to count the number of items donated, but we gave up counting there were so many.”
Mayner said that this year’s Outreach Center Annual Christmas Giveaway has grown compared to previous years.
“We have 506 children we are going to give to,” Mayner said. “I think the need for our giveaway is greater this year than it has been.”
The Annual Christmas Giveaway, Mayner said, would not be possible without the generosity of the Scott County community.
“We would like to thank all the people and organizations that have joined us in this mission,” Mayner said.
Those individuals and families that registered to receive gifts during the Annual Christmas Giveaway are reminded that all gifts will be distributed on Friday, Dec. 15 from 4 to 8:00 p.m. at the Outreach Community Center. All gifts must be picked up that evening. No exceptions will be made.
Mayner also reminds the community that the Outreach Center’s Christmas Food Giveaway will take place Saturday, Dec. 23, starting at 10 a.m.
