Numerous police and rescue departments were called to the scene of a two-vehicle accident not far across the Greene County line on Dec. 8 at approximately 1:15 p.m. including Roodhouse Police, Winchester Police, Scott County Sheriff’s Department and Winchester EMS.
According to a report from the Illinois State Police, the accident occurred at the intersection of Rt. 67 and the Alsey-Manchester Road when a 2015 Nissan Route SUV driven by Richard Clanton, 80, of Murrayville, who was traveling south on U.S. 67, attempted to turn left across the two northbound lanes onto North Main Street in Manchester.
Clanton allegedly failed to yield to oncoming traffic, driving into the path of a 2018 Dodge Journey traveling northbound on U.S. 67 that was being driven by Doris Lockhart, 51, also of Murrayville.
Clanton’s vehicle hit Lockhart’s which then traveled down an embankment and rolled over. Lockhart had a male juvenile passenger in her vehicle and both were transported by ambulance to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Clanton was cited for failure to yield while turning left at an intersection. His vehicle came to rest on North Main facing toward U.S. 67.
