West Central scored 19 straight points during the second and third quarters and beat Carrollton, 56-39, Jan. 6 in the first round of the Winchester Invitational Tournament.
Mason Berry had a steal and converted a three-point play to give West Central a 31-30 lead with 12 seconds remaining in the second quarter. Berry also scored a few moments earlier to get the Cougars within two points.
The Cougars held Carrollton scoreless for the first 7 minutes of the third quarter.
Evans converted a three-point play to start the second half after Ryker Ford grabbed an offensive rebound. Carson Brown scored to extend the lead to 36-30.
Evans had a steal and a bunk after Berry forced a turnover. Evans scored again off a turnover, and Berry made a free throw after grabbing an offensive to extend the lead to 41-30.
Evans converted another layup, and Cameron Sievers made two free throws after getting an offensive rebound to increase the lead to 44-30.
Carrollton scored with 55 seconds remaining, and West Central led 46-32 after three quarters.
The Cougars trailed 18-10 in the first quarter. Evans converted a three-point play, and Brown scored to cut the margin to 18-15 after one quarter.
Evans scored six straight points to tie the game after Carrollton took a 26-20 lead.
Evans scored 22 points, including nine in the third quarter to lead the Cougars. Berry scored 11.
Brown scored eight points, and Chance Little scored seven. Ford scored five points, and Sievers scored two. Nick Hamilton scored one point.
