Lady Warriors take second in Regionals against West Central

The Calhoun Lady Warriors took second place in the Regionals after facing off against West Central Lady Cougars in the IHSA Regional Championship game on Friday, Feb. 16.
Both teams scored 11 points in the first quarter with things tied up to start the second quarter. West Central put up 17 points in the second quarter to gain control of the game with a five point lead at the half, 28-23.
The Cougars were able to keep control of the game in the third quarter holding their five point lead at the end of the quarter, 38-33, despite the Warriors briefly tying things up.
Calhoun made a big push in the fourth quarter with the Warriors evening the score to 41-41 after Kate Zipprich put up two points off a rebound from a 3-point shot from Audrey Gilman. West Central regained control of the lead by two points before the Warriors took the lead, 45-44, after Gilman scored two points off her own rebound with 15 seconds left in the game.
West Central got two points from the free throw line with just 11 seconds left in the match, taking the lead, 46-45. Calhoun took the ball from the sideline after a foul with just five seconds left. A pass from Gilman got the ball to Zipprich who took a shot that bounced off the rim just before the buzzer, giving the Cougars the win 46-45.
Gilman led the Warriors, and the game, in scoring with 22 points. Sadie Kiel scored 12 for the Warriors, Zipprich scored four and Bralyn Lammy and Gracie Klaas each scored two points.
The Warriors took a 49-24 win against the Triopia Lady Trojans. The Warriors took an early seven point lead finishing the first quarter 10-3. Triopia put up 10 points in the second quarter but couldn’t cut into the Warriors lead finishing the second half 22-13. Calhoun put up 27 points in the second half to secure the win 49-24.
