In an effort to complement the budget of the Scott County Nursing Center (SCNC), SCNC’s advisory board is sponsoring a “Supply Shower” to generate community donations of everyday items needed by the facility and residents of the facility.
SCNC RN Shanda Robeen said that the supply shower was an idea generated by members of SCNC’s community advisory board.
“Because we are operated by the county, we have an advisory board, of which Pam Hembrough is a member,” Robeen said. “The idea for the supply shower came from the board and Pam. They’re very good about ways to do outreach to the community.”
Robeen went on to say that, unlike privately owned nursing homes, SCNC relies on public support to function and take care of its residents.
“We’re run by the county, so we don’t have a big corporation backing us,” Robeen said.
The supply shower, according to Robeen and SCNC Business Office Manager Megan Howard, is designed to function as a registry of items needed by SCNC.
“It’s kind of like a wishlist of things needed,” Howard said.
Items on the supply shower wish list include everyday consumable products used in the care of SCNC residents.
Residents and organizations that wish to contribute to SCNC’s supply shower are encouraged to purchase and donate some of the following everyday consumables:
• Shampoo and body wash;
• White and beige wash cloths;
• White regular size bath towels;
• Personal care items;
• Paper products for kitchen, including cups, plates, napkins, flatware;
• Five gallon jugs of bleach and laundry detergent;,
• Large containers of dish soap;
• Depends;
• 55 gallon barrels of Zep floor cleaner;
• Ro-Ho pressure relief cushions;
• Hospital grade plastic covered pillows and twin comforters.
Thankfully, Howard indicated that SCNC enjoys strong support throughout the year from the Scott County community, and she added that the community understands that SCNC’s financial future depends on public support.
“We always get phone calls from the public asking how they can help,” Howard said. “They know that times have been tough through COVID, and they’re always looking to help.”
“We just have a wonderful, giving community.”
Residents who purchase items on SCNC’s supply shower wish list are encouraged to either drop off items at the facility during daytime hours or order items online and have them delivered directly to SCNC at 650 N. Main, Winchester, IL 62694.
Further information on a planned SCNC Amazon wish list will be forthcoming.
For additional information, residents should contact SCNC at 217-742-3101.
