The Pikeland Unit 10 School Board met three times in April and personal was the main focus of all three meetings.
The board held a special meeting April 11 from 6 p.m. to 8:59 p.m. and almost immediately went into closed session to discuss employment matters and collective bargaining. Although the board did not specify what negotiating group they were working with, they did approve a two year agreement between the board and the Unit 10 teacher’s Association at the April 17 meeting. The agreement will run Aug. 1, 2024 to July 31, 2026. It includes a five percent parries the first year and a five and one-half the second year.
No action was taken following the closed session but the matter was approved at the April 17 meeting.
The regularly scheduled meeting of the board was held April 17. The board approved $1 increases for all non-certified employees for the upcoming school year. The board also increased the pay for officials for the school sports seasons.
The board continues to grapple with overcrowding at South School. There are currently 351 students in the school. No final plans have been announced.
The board approved the following employment matters:
• Hired Rebecca Seybold as the district treasurer.
• Hired Adam Brockhouse as dean of students at the high school, for the 2024-25 school year; hired Ryan Benz as PCS principal for the same school year and hired James Feldpausch and Renita TenEyck as PCS co-assistant principals at PCS.
• Hired Brandon Bettis as the assistant principal at South School.
• Accepted the resignation of Holly Lowe as the junior high volleyball coach at the end of this year.
• Accepted the resignation of Nicole Leahr as the PS POMs coach effective at the end of the year.
The board also met April 24 and approved the following employment matters:
• Hired Stephanie Smith, George Toelke, Aiden Poor, Jaynee Heafner and Makayla Jennings as summer help.
• Employment coaches for the 2024-2025 school year as presented: Paul Petty, volunteer coach, Tom Shaw, volunteer football coach,Ryan Eifrid, volunteer football coach, Mason Pheringo, volunteer football coach, Jenna Hull, JV Volleyball coach, Jack
• Palmer, boys’ golf coach, Stason Martin, golf coach, Jimmy Sanderson, junior high girls’ basketball coach, Noah Mendenhall, junior high boys’ basketball coach, Jack Palmer, junior high assistant boys’ coach, Brad Tomhave, high school boys’ basketball coach, Scott Bacon, JV boys’ basketball coach, Jordan Cawthon,freshmen boys’ basketball coach, Sydney Himmelman, JV girls’ basketball coach,Tiffany Sanderson, volunteer junior high golf coach, Rachel Cawthon, volunteer swim coach, Michelle Hart, volunteer swim coach, Ariana White, junior high softball coach.
Employment of the following long term substitutes for the 2024-2025 school year as presented:
• Mickey Elliott, Ashley Bradley, Caleb Dixon, Tonya Douglas, Nicole Leahr, Sarah McNulty, Sarah Pines, Sadie Ruble.
• Employment of Delanie Renoud, elementary teacher, for the 2024-2025 school year.
• Employment of Eric Powell, PCS Custodian, effective immediately.
• Resignation of Jodi Heavner, agriculture and FFA sponsor, effective at the end of the 2023-2024 school year.
• Non-renewal notice of Community Coach Darci Heavner (Saukette Coach).
