Sting operation nets one hunting violation

A hunting detail, conducted by the Illinois Conservation, was conducted in Pike County, April 27.
Two turkey decoys were used to target turkey poaches.
During the duration of the detail officers observed a 2023 GMC truck stopped in the roadway, looking at the decoys. The truck sat for approximately 50 seconds before firing two rounds from within the vehicle.
A conservation officer initiated a traffic stop on the truck, driven by a 65 year-old male.
A revolver was located in the center console of the vehicle, along with two spent casings and three live rounds. The firearm was seized as evidence.
The driver was cited for hunting by use or aid of a conveyance and issued written warnings for uncased firearm and unlawful hunting from roadway and was given a court date.
Although IDNR did not release the name of the individual, information at the Pike County Courthouse show that on that date, a ticket was issued to William O.Turnbull of Griggsville for hunting by use of conveyance by Austin Priest, Conservation Police Officer.
Turnbull’s offense is a must appear and a court date is set for June 3 at 1:30 p.m in the Pike County Courthouse.
