The Pittsfield City Council started the fiscal year, April 30, 2023, with a balance of $5,918,533 after receipts of $16,603,027 and disbursements of $6,161,295, the city ended the year with a $242,762 increase. The announcement was made at the June 4 meeting.
The council also agreed to have a fixed rate of $600 for any property owner and/or contractor who cuts into city streets to access utilities.
“That would cover about two cubic yards of concrete and the manpower to fix the spot,” Tom Reinhardt, told the council. The council decided to go with a fixed rate instead of a by-the-job rate to assure the specifications for the repairs were not skimped.
The council said the rate may chance once they see how it is working out, but for now is $600.
Business Incentive Loans were granted to Raintree and the Smoke Shop. The incentive gives new businesses 100 percent off on gas and water for the first six months and 50 percent the second six months.
Gianvanni’s also applied for and received a facade loan. The amount of the loan is for $6,000 or half of the $12,000 estimate on the project. The loan will be repaid at 3 percent interest.
Kevin Ketchum, alderman in Ward I, which houses the swimming pool, urged motorists to slow down in the pool area. Ketchum, who lives across the street, said so far this year he has seen two near accidents, when a child ran from one side of a vehicle to another.
“With the bigger vehicles today, those kids were out in the street,”Ketchum said. “Everybody needs to slow down and be careful.”
Gary Mendenhall, mayor, had a request from citizens.
“It you have a noise complaint, call when it is happening,” Mendenhall said. “There’s not much we can do the next day. That way we can go talk to the offenders and maybe reach a resolution without a complaint being signed.”
Robert Richart also had a request for residents, asking them not to mow their grass out in the street.
“It clogs up the drains and we get big pools of water in the street,” Richart said.
The council also granted permission for the Pittsfield Fire Department to hold a 5K at the Pittsfield City Lake,Oct.12. Alderman had a good natured time discussing which of the alderman should represent the council, by running in the event.
