A variety of free, fun, and educational activities for both children and adults will be offered during the Morgan County Fair in Jacksonville. Educational programs will be featured on Wednesday afternoon, July 10 in the air-conditioned 4-H Building. Special activities for children are featured on Thursday, July 11 and Sunday, July 14.
“Lincoln Land Honor Flight” will be the topic of Tina Kackley’s presentation on Wednesday, July 10 at 1:30 pm. Honor Flight provides round trip transportation from Springfield, Illinois to Washington, D.C. for veterans who wish to visit their memorials. Come learn how the program works and who is eligible to participate.
Our second program on Wednesday at 2:30 pm will be presented by Dr. Michael Woods. Dr. Woods will explain “Mainstreet Farms: a GROWhood Initiative.” It is an initiative sponsored by the Jacksonville Park Foundation in which vacant lots are being turned into vibrant community-based farms. His presentation will emphasize conservation practices.
All area children are invited to participate in Kids Day at the Morgan County Fair on Thursday afternoon, July 11 from 1:30 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. A large group of volunteers and local agencies will provide a variety of games, crafts, educational activities, face painting, balloon art, a fire safety house, and prizes. Kids Day activities will be held at the southeast corner of the fairgrounds in and near the 4-H and Adult buildings. Parents are encouraged to attend with their children.
The Pedal Tractor Pull will be held on Sunday, July 14, in the air-conditioned 4-H Building. Registration begins at 1:30 p.m. with the competition beginning at 2:00 p.m. This free activity is open to all children and youth who have not yet started high school. Parents, grandparents, and friends are invited to come cheer on the participants and watch the fun.
These programs, which are planned by the Morgan County Fair Auxiliary, are free and open to the public. The auxiliary appreciates the support of the many area businesses and agencies that provide activities and prizes for our special events during the fair. More information is available in the fair program book, by calling the fair office at 217-245-6800, or online at www.themorgancountyfair.com.
