The North Greene School District will be looking for someone to take on the role of Athletic Director after McKea Jones submitted her letter of resignation at the June board meeting.
Jones has been with the district for the last four years. She took over the position of Athletic Director when Brett Berry became the Jr./Sr. High Principal. Jones has accepted an administrative position with the Bluffs School District.
North Greene Principal Jackie Kuchy said she hates to lose Jones, who was also the high school girls basketball coach, but said she also understands why she would leave..
“I hate to lose her, but I completely understand her wanting to go,” Kuchy said. “I don’t want her to pass up an opportunity she feels is supporting her professional goals. I think the athletic director experience has led her in that direction.”
The board approved becoming a part of the Safe School ID program. The program is no cost to school districts. Kuchy explained a little about the program.
“It is basically a security measure to ensure that the different vendors that work in school districts are screened appropriately to be on our grounds or in the vicinity of students,” Kuchy said. “The Illinois Association of School Boards reached an agreement with them so it is a partnership. My understanding is that it is creating a database of the vendors who might work in multiple school districts.”
The cost is on the vendors who choose to be part of the database. All of the information on their employees is uploaded to the database and, as part of the program, school districts would be able to ensure that all of the employees who are potentially going to be on the school property would meet the criteria for background checks.
The district hired Clancy Maher, who is currently the Dean of Students, to be the Assistant Principal/Food Service Director.
“She has a background in nutrition and has also been a teacher for us and taught some CTE classes,” Kuchy said. “She is going to be transitioning to overseeing the food service and still maintaining some of her instructional duties as assistant principal. She will be serving both buildings.”
After two years of unsuccessful experiences with two different food service programs, the board decided, this year, to go back to self-op, or preparing and serving lunch to the students.
“Since we are returning to self-op, we had to go back into what is called the purchasing cooperative, or the TPC,” Kuchy said. “They assist us with the bidding process. They have an agreement with an entity that works predominantly with GFS so we will work through them for our supply as well as for some of our other commodities.
The district approved an intergovernmental agreement to continue housing the alternative or ACE school in the Unit office.
