Donna Sue Plattner | 84 | Scottsdale, AZ
Donna Sue Plattner, age 84, beloved mother and grandmother passed away peacefully at Sunrise of Scottsdale on Thursday, July 25, 2024. Sue was born in Pittsfield, Illinois to Donald and Eleanor (Hoos) Smith. She loved growing up on the farm, participating in 4H and playing piano at the country church. She attended Pittsfield High School and was crowned Queen at the Junior/Senior Prom.
Sue married David Plattner on Sept. 12, 1958. The couple had three children, Mike, Lora and Ryan. In her mid-thirties, Sue went back to school, graduating from William Jewel College in Liberty, Missouri with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business. She had a fulfilling career as a medical transcriptionist at North Kansas City Hospital in Missouri.
In retirement, Sue moved with her husband David to Scottsdale, AZ to be closer to her daughter, Lora. She enjoyed traveling, spending time with her grandchildren and serving the Lord.
Sue was a consummate green thumb, growing beautiful flower gardens and delighting in the many birds that visited there. An excellent seamstress, Sue often used her talent to create adorable dresses for her two granddaughters. She was a devout Christian, attending Mountainview Presbyterian Church in Scottsdale where she participated in the ladies sewing group.
Always joyful, lighthearted and full of laughter, Sue was an incredibly loving and giving person. Her many selfless acts of kindness will be long remembered by all who loved her.
Sue was preceded in death by her husband David, her daughter Lora and her brother Donald Smith. She is survived by her son Mike (Lisa) of Scottsdale, AZ, son Ryan (Gwen) of Shawnee, KS and five grandchildren: Lindsay, Connor, Devon, Madison and Cooper. She is also survived by brothers Tom Smith of Pittsfield, Ill. and Jack Smith of Phoenix, AZ.
Relatives and friends attended visitation on Monday, July 29 from 5 to 7 p.m., at Messinger Indian School Mortuary, 7601 E. Indian School Rd., Scottsdale, AZ. A Celebration of Life was held on Tuesday, July 30 at 10:30 a.m. at Mountainview Presbyterian Church, 8050 E. Mountainview Rd., Scottsdale, AZ followed by a luncheon at 11:30 a.m. and burial services took place at 1 p.m. at Paradise Memorial Cemetery, 9300 E. Shea Blvd., Scottsdale, AZ.
