Gladys Ann Myers | 88 | Griggsville

Gladys Ann (Birch) Myers passed away peacefully on Aug. 16, 2024 at her home in Griggsville, IL.
Gladys Ann was born on April 7, 1936, at home in rural Griggsville to the late Jessie Raymond and Hazel (Cawthon) Birch.
She attended Brush College, a one-room schoolhouse, through the 7th grade. From there, she attended Griggsville schools, where she graduated high school in 1954. She attended college at Western Illinois college and the University of Illinois.
Gladys Ann married her high school sweetheart Richard Roark Myers on Aug. 7, 1955, at the United Methodist Church of Griggsville. They lived a life of love and bliss for 69 years and raised three children: Susan (Dr. Bradley) Roberts of Alton, IL; Gordon (Dr. Thiago Moulin) Myers of Tampa, FL; and Steven (Lori) Myers of Griggsville, IL. They all survive.
Her pride and joy was her family. Gladys Ann had a strong devotion and love to her husband. She was an incredible wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. She dearly loved her children and grandchildren and supporting their activities. She followed them and attended their activities for as long as she was able.
She took great pride in being an active part of her community. She was a member of Eastern Star for over 50 years, Chapter EM of PEO for 66 years and the needlecraft club, and she was the founding member of the “Pink Ladies” for women who have or had breast cancer. Being an active member of her church was also incredibly important to Gladys Ann. She was a lifelong member of the Griggsville United Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday School, led the junior high choir and was church treasurer. She was also involved in many other church committees.
She grew up playing the piano. She loved her life on the farm watching birds and other animals. She was an excellent cook and homemaker, and she always believed it was important to be kind to people.
In addition to her husband and children, Gladys Ann is survived by her grandchildren: Emily (Lance) Martin of St. Louis, MO; Clayton (Regan) Myers of O’Fallon, IL; Katherine (Connor) Frick of Denver, CO; Joseph Myers of Griggsville, IL; Sarah Myers of Denver, CO; Julia Myers of San Diego, CA; Jonathon (Hannah) Myers of Orion, IL; Matthew (Emily) Myers of Royal IL; and Michael Myers of Griggsville, IL She is survived by six great grandchildren with a seventh due to arrive any day: Logan, Chase and Lydia Martin of St. Louis, MO; Adele and Rowan Myers of O’Fallon, IL; Hallie Myers of Orion, IL; and baby Frick of Denver, CO. She is also survived by a daughter-in-law, Karen Myers of St. Louis, MO; and one sister, Lois Purdy of Shabbona, IL.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Robert L. Birch and her sister, Marie (Birch) Iftner.
Services were held Sunday, Aug. 18, 2024, at Griggsville United Methodist Church.  In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Griggsville United Methodist Church or Griggsville Cemetery and sent to Airsman-Hires Chapel, Box 513, Pittsfield, IL 62363.  Condolences may be sent to the family online at www.airsman-hires.com.
