This year marks a spe-cial mile-stone for the Quin-cy Med-ical Group (QMG) Foun-da-tion Bridge the Gap to Health Race as it cel-e-brates its 25th anniver-sary. For 25 years, this annu-al event has brought the com-mu-ni-ty togeth-er to sup-port caus-es that enhance the qual-i-ty of life for local residents.
To hon-or this mile-stone, the race is rais-ing funds to pur-chase a new indus-tri-al-grade truck for Hori-zons, a local soup kitchen and food pantry. This vehi-cle will enable Hori-zons to res-cue sur-plus food from local busi-ness-es and trans-port it effi-cient-ly, ensur-ing that fresh, nutri-tious meals reach those fac-ing food insecurity.
“For 25 years, we’ve stayed true to our mis-sion of bridg-ing the gaps in our com-mu-ni-ty,” said Mor-gan Park-er, Direc-tor of Com-mu-ni-ty Rela-tions and Foun-da-tion at QMG. “This year, the miles on our par-tic-i-pants’ feet will direct-ly cor-re-late to the miles Hori-zons’ truck will dri-ve — miles that will make a life-chang-ing dif-fer-ence for count-less fam-i-lies in our region by deliv-er-ing food, hope, and nourishment.”
The new truck will allow Hori-zons to col-lect dona-tions from more loca-tions, improv-ing effi-cien-cy and ensur-ing that safe, nutri-tious food reach-es indi-vid-u-als and fam-i-lies in the com-mu-ni-ty. This year, Hori-zons expects to res-cue 530,000 pounds of food from over 20 loca-tions, val-ued at over $911,600.
“Turn-ing sur-plus food into nour-ish-ment not only feeds the body but restores hope and dig-ni-ty,” said Sarah Stephens, Exec-u-tive Direc-tor of Hori-zons. “This truck will allow us to bridge the gap of res-cu-ing and repur-pos-ing food to bring relief to our neigh-bors in need.”
In addi-tion to sup-port-ing Hori-zons, a por-tion of the funds raised from the race will also sup-port the QMG Foundation’s ongo-ing efforts to pro-vide finan-cial assis-tance to non-prof-it orga-ni-za-tions that direct-ly impact the com-mu-ni-ty with a focus on com-mu-ni-ty devel-op-ment, health, and youth initiatives.
The Bridge the Gap to Health Race will take place on Sat-ur-day, May 10, 2025, and is open to par-tic-i-pants of all ages and abil-i-ties. Whether you’re run-ning for per-son-al health or to sup-port the cause, every step you take this year will make a pos-i-tive impact.
