Calhoun Warriors took second place in the Spartan Classic Tournament Friday evening in a nail biter of a game against Greenfield with a final score of 53-51.
The Warriors took a 75-18 win over Lovejoy to start off the tournament with Lane Eilerman leading in scoring with 16 points. Jack Graner scored 11 points for the Warriors, Jack Zipprich and Jack Webster each scored eight points, Drew Wallendorf and Connor Longnecker scored scored six, Charlie Matthews scored four points, and Max Toppmeyer, Jack Brannan, Jake Snyders, Blake Nolte, Earl Elmore, Gage Kiel, Will Lorton, and Easton Wallendorf each scored two points.
Calhoun then went on to take down the North Greene Spartans 51-40 before facing off against Greenfield. Longnecker led the Warriors in scoring as Wallendorf hit three 3s, Zipprich hit two and Snyders hit one.
In the championship game against Greenfield the Warriors started out strong taking a 16-8 lead by the end of the first quarter. The Tigers had a strong second quarter putting up 21 points to take the lead at halftime, 29-24. It was an even back and forth in the third quarter with each team scoring ten points, but even out scoring the Tigers, 17-14, in the fourth quarter wasn’t enough to snag the win for the Warriors.
