The Village of Hardin held their regular board meeting on Wednesday, Dec. 11, and approved the annual tax levy ordinance.
After approval of the previous meeting minutes and the treasurers report, the board took action on the annual tax levy. While reviewing the tax levy ordinance Mayor David Hurley said they’re going 1% under the max so that a public hearing would not be required.
The tax levy ordinance was approved unanimously following a motion from Robert E. Lee and a second from Matt Haug, with board members J.D. Lorton and Amanda Tepen absent.
The board also discussed the annual renewal of insurance. If the village stays with their current provider for 2025 there will be a rate increase. However, there is a new option that would be a lower rate.
The board decided to go with the better deal and approved a motion to go with the new insurance provider with the condition that anyone getting coverage can keep the same doctor. The board agreed to hold a special meeting to amend the decision in case there is an issue with doctors.
Following a brief closed session, the board reconvened to discuss road repairs and maintenance.
A list of roads has been made and prioritized with work starting in the spring. One of the main issues that will be addressed in the repair work is culverts and drainage. The board said one the main goals is to get pipes underground to help with drainage and prevent flooding or any additional damage to the roads and nearby homes.
Sassafras, Cemetery, and Corbett are all on the list to begin repairs in the coming spring.
