At the Dec. 12 County Board meeting, the members of the Board unanimously voted to approve appointing long-time Deputy Treasurer Brenda Albrecht to act as Interim Treasurer effective Jan. 1, 20225 following the retirement of Treasurer Kirby Ballard, effective Dec. 31, 2024.
Albrecht has been a full-time employee in the Treasurer’s Office for the past 55 years, beginning in January of 1970. Prior to that, she was a part-time employee for two years prior, in 1968 and 1969.
Ballard still has 23 months left on his four-year term and This appointment would be on a temporary basis as the county is allowed 60 days from the vacancy to make the official appointment of the new acting Treasurer.
Albrecht will receive an increase in pay, equal to that of the current pay of the Treasurer which increased to $71,011 on Dec. 1, 2024. That position is paid out 26 pays a year, so the biweekly gross pay will be $2,731.19.
While Albrecht stands as the logical replacement, she cannot be named as the replacement because she is not of the same political party. Ballard is a registered Republican while Albrecht is a registered Democrat.
Board Chairman Earlene Castleberry made the motion to appoint Albrecht as Interim Treasurer and Board Member Josh Lawson seconded the motion. The vote was unanimous with board members Melissa Mehrhoff, Rick Ross, Rob Hall, Mark Strang and Charlie Helton all voting yes.
Also by a unanimous vote, it was approved to offer Autumn Bruns a part-time position in the Treasurer’s Office until the new treasurer is appointed.
