WALKER LANCASTER
By Carmen Ensinger
Walker Lancaster didn’t even want to put his name in the pot for the half-court shot at the Winchester Invitational Tournament, so his dad put it in for him.
That turned out to be one of the most fortuitous acts a father could have ever done for his son.
On Wednesday night, during halftime of one of the games, Walker’s name was called for the halfcourt shot. The 12-year-old Greenfield-Northwestern student sauntered up to the scorer’s table and was handed the basketball.
Next, he meekly walked past mid-court, took a running start and let loose the ball. Looking at his small stature, it is hard to imagine he had the strength to even propel the ball that far, but he did it with no problem it all.
It was a beautiful sight to see as the perfect arc on the ball went through the hoop touching nothing but net.
The crowd erupted in cheers for the young man who just increased his college fund by $600 in less than 30 seconds.
Afterwards, he was asked what he planned to do with the money.
“I really don’t know right now because I never thought I would be getting anything like this,” he said. “I’m sure I’ll have to put some of it in the bank, though.”
