The month of January is typically known for being a short meeting for the Greenfield School Board, but the Jan. 27 meeting probably beat all records at a mere 31 minutes.
“That is the shortest meeting I have ever been a part of,” Greenfield Superintendent Andy Stumpf said. “We only had four board members present and we didn’t have a lot to talk about so it went pretty quickly.”
Among the highlights, High School Principal Beth Bettis presented a plaque that was awarded to the yearbook club for being selected to the Walsworth Gallery of Excellence. The yearbook club placed in multiple categories in the 2024 IJEA yearbook contest.
“The district would like to commend the yearbook sponsor, Mrs. Angie Brown, and her yearbook students for their hard work, creativity and dedication for achieving this recognition,” Stumpf said.
The board approved hiring Alicia Terpening as a part-time cook for the district.
“We found ourselves in need of another part time cook because we are serving so many more meals these days,” Stumpf said. “Plus they are cooking a lot more from scratch and they just needed some additional help.”
The board also discussed the purchase of some cinders to add to the track.
“We have been struggling trying to get our track improved and just trying to find someplace to purchase some cinders,” Stumpf said. “Finally, there was a landscaping company that I had talked to about something else and I asked him if he knew anywhere where we could get some cinders and he finally got back to me.”
Unfortunately, the news wasn’t that good.
“An inch layer of cinders for the track would cost us around $16,000 and a two-inch layer would cost $32,000,” Stumpf said. “We don’t have the money for that, but I just wanted to share with the board that this is what it would cost to get some cinders on our track to make it a safer running environment. We took no action on it.”
Stumpf also discussed with the board about the different conferences that the teachers will be attending.
“There are three different conferences that are out of state and when you talk about people attending out of state professional development conferences, I just like to have board approval,” Stumpf said. “One of them is going to be in Washington D.C., one in San Diego and one in Tennessee. All of them will be grant funded.”
