Carrollton Laundry and Lounge went ahead with their planned grand opening on Friday, Feb. 21, despite Mother Nature throwing a spanner in the works.
“A busted water pipe prevented all of the washing machines from getting installed in time for our grand opening,” Owner Lisa Bridgewater said. “We had hoped to be open back in December and didn’t make that deadline so we decided we were going to go ahead with this grand opening since the line would be fixed soon and we would be open for business in a few days.”
Carrollton Laundry and Lounge is owned by Kendall and Lisa Bridgewater, both natives of Carrollton who now live in Florida.
Last year they purchased the block of buildings which formerly housed the Greene County Rural Water Office and have created a sort of “mecca” on the west side of the Carrollton Square.
In addition to the numerous washers and dryers that range in size from 20-pound loads fit for a single pair of knickers to 60 pound loads for the largest king size comforter, the facility also has a lounge area which provides a relaxing atmosphere to enjoy music, TV, a glass of wine or beer or items from a vending machine.
Down some steps on the right is an arcade for the young and those young at heart with all kinds of game, both new and old including a foosball game, a retro table game that includes Pac Man, Donkey Kong, Galaxian and many other 80’s favorites, Jurassic Park, race car and motorbike games and claw games.
Off to the left is the adult gaming room.
“We have our license for the gaming machines but they have not arrived yet,” Bridgewater said. “You can come in, do your clothes and play some slots while your kids enjoy some arcade games – all in the same building. Plus, enjoy an adult beverage at the same time.”
The hours of operation will be 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Friday and Saturday and 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. on the other days.
“Of course, if it is really slow or no one is out at all, we might close early,” Bridgewater said. “It’s all just trial and error at this point, but those are our hours for now.”
There is also a party room in the back.
