Calhoun High School Band Club and Calhoun Entertainment Company Youth Band presented their Spring Concert Sunday afternoon at James A Ringhausen Gymnasium. At last year’s Spring concert Band Director Scotty Browning, with tears in his eyes, addressed the audience and students and told them.
“That he would do whatever they needed to help keep music in our schools and encouraged everyone to step up and try to help these musicians be able to showcase their talents,” he said.
Those words did not fall on deaf ears. After Scotty’s sudden passing in the summer. The students he was fighting for listened to his words and formed the Calhoun High School Band Club, with the help of alumni and Calhoun High School teacher Madeleine Heberling who stepped up to lead them. The faculty, staff administration at both Calhoun and Brussels schools continued support and flexibility to help these students regarding perpetuation of music in our schools.
Jerry Sievers, Director of the Calhoun Entertainment Company with the help of other musicians formed the Calhoun Entertainment Company Youth Band. To keep beginners interested. They performed a Christmas concert and the Spring Concert.
Calhoun Unit 40 had advertised for a Music/Band teacher but no one had applied previously. It was announced that in the Fall of 2025 music/ band will be returning to Calhoun Unit 40 as a music teacher was hired.
Sunday’s concert was dedicated to to
Mr. Scotty Browning, “who inspired us to never quit doing what we love – music.”
