A Greene County man was killed Friday, May 9, in a motor vehicle versus semi accident on Rt. 67 at Heinold curve.
Greene County Coroner Brady Milnes identified the man as Dennis Swarringim, 69, of Roodhouse.
“Post mortem procedures indicate that Mr. Swarringim was experiencing a medical emergency at the time of the crash,” Milnes said. “He succumbed to multiple blunt force injuries sustained in the incident.”
According to the Illinois State Police, the accident occurred at around 1 p.m. The black Ford Fiesta, driven by Swarringim, crossed the center line and struck a semi head-on. The driver of the semi sustained no injuries.
U.S. 67 was closed until approximately 7 p.m. from the Carrollton Square to Berdan Road. Traffic was rerouted at the Carrollton Square going north and at Berdan Road going south with Providence Road being the only southbound route open to traffic.
The death remains under investigation by the Greene County Coroner’s office, the Illinois State Police and the Greene County Sheriff’s Office.
