Greenfield sports fans who are fed up with the NFHS service used to stream games will be happy to know that the district will be using a different service next year.
Greenfield Superintendent Andy Stumpf said the board, at the May 19 meeting, discussed switching to the Hudl streaming service for their athletic games at both Greenfield and Northwestern.
“This service brings in their own cameras and it would be a free service to the fans who want to watch the games,” Stumpf said. “Right now, fans have to pay for the NFHS service and we have had nothing but complaints about it not working right or the streaming isn’t working or it is cutting out.”
Greenfield would have their own Hudl page for their teams.
“People can go on and pick which game they wanted to watch either here at Greenfield or at Palmyra,” Stumpf said. “We might eventually even sell some advertising to help pay for it.”
There are a lot of tools included that will be able to help coaches.
“A lot of our coaches would use it to help with videoing the games,” Stumpf said. “Also, they have different pieces that come with this package that would help coaches do stats for the games.”
According to Stumpf, these stats would be generated by AI.
“Then the coach can also go through and double check those stats,” Stumpf said. “There are all kinds of capabilities that would help coaches in this system.”
Jessica Vetter presented a proposal for the purchase of a sign to be displayed on the front of the gym.
“One day she realized we didn’t have any sort of sign or markings on the gym, which is our probably most used building as far as outside of the normal school day,” Stumpf said. “So she just asked permission to fundraise and hopefully make enough money to buy a new sign that would go on the front of the gym to mark it as Greenfield High School Gymnasium.”
The board gave Vetter permission to fundraise for the project, which has a projected cost of just over $10,000 to do the whole project which included lighting, installation and everything else.
At a special meeting held on Thursday, May 22, the board accepted a request from Grade School Principal Jeremy Lansaw to be reassigned to the classroom.
“He didn’t state a reason in his letter, of why he wanted to go back to the classroom,” Stumpf said. “I know it is a very stressful position so that might have had something to do with it.
The board accepted Lansaw’s request and posted for the position the following day.
“Hopefully we can get some good candidates and get them interviewed and hired fairly quickly,” Stumpf said.
The district is facing a substantial increase from Prairie State Insurance Cooperative (PSIC) next year for their workman’s comp and property casualty insurance.
“It is slated to go up over 22 percent for the coming year,” Stumpf said. “A big portion of that is because since COVID a lot of the valuations of the buildings are low because of how much it would cost to replace them.”
According to Stumpf, PCIS sends a company out to do an evaluation of replacement cost of the district’s buildings should some disaster strike like a tornado or fire.
“Obviously the costs done pre-COVID to now has significantly increased,” Stumpf said. “It is not ideal and we don’t like to have our insurance go up that much, but the value of our buildings is also up significantly. When that goes up, the cost to replace those is going to go up and naturally your insurance is going to go up.”
Stumpf reported the five companies have submitted qualifications for the District Architect position. The Building and Grounds Committee will be meeting to start conducting interviews.
Stumpf also reported that the district had their five-year compliance check with the Regional Office of Education. Stumpf said they received a perfect score on this compliance check.
