Laura West, speech-language pathologist at South School, paraprofessional at South School, received the Class of 1954 Scholarship Fund’s Staff Recognition Award. West will receive a $1,000 award. Comments from her nominations stated: Laura’s approach to her work is characterized by her willingness to go above and beyond; Her insights and practical tips, honed over years of experience in education, have proven instrumental in creating a supportive and effective learning environment. This collaborative spirit not only enhances the educational experience for students but also fosters a sense of community among educators;She often spends her own time, including Saturday mornings, catching up on paperwork and planning. This level of dedication underscores her passion for her profession and her unwavering commitment to the success and well-being of her students; Her contributions to South School are multifaceted, impacting both the academic and behavioral development of students. Her collaborative efforts with staff further enhance the educational environment.
Madison Zumwalt, paraprofessional at South School, received the Class of 1954 Scholarship Fund’s Staff Recognition Award. Zumwalt will receive a $1,000 award. Comments from her nominations stated: Without a doubt, we are successful because of her! Madison shares experience and ideas without judgment or frustration; She works hard every day. She loves every student as if they are our only student; She meets student needs right where they are at—a snack, reading a story, or rocking them; She is valuable to South in other ways as well—she fills in as the secretary and as a teacher (often without notice due to an emergency). After working all day, she goes home to work on her degree so she can become a teacher.
