The Carrollton Lady Hawks had no problem dealing with the two teams they faced in Peoria at the State 1A Championship, but the Super Sectional at Athens on Monday was a different story.
Tied at 2-2 at the end of regulation play at seven innings against Havana, the Lady Hawks held out until the 11th inning when Havana scored a run to take the lead.
Havana might have started celebrating a little early not knowing the power of the Lady Hawks. The never-say-die Lady Hawks came back and scored two in the bottom of the 11th to win the game.
Lauren Flowers pitched all 11 innings for the Hawks achieving an amazing 18 strikeouts in the game to lead the game to a 4-3 outcome and take them into the State playoffs,
On Friday, at Peoria, against Casey-Westfield, the home of former coach Lori Blade, the Hawks dispatched them 6-3 in the first round on Friday.
The Lady Hawks took an early 2-0 lead in the first inning followed up by another run in the second inning for a 3-0 lead. Casey answered back with one run in the third and two in the fifth, but the Lady Hawks rallied with one in the fourth and two in the fifth.
Lauren Flowers pitched the entire game for the Lady Hawks allowing seven hits and three runs while striking out eight.
On Saturday, the Lady Hawks faced LeRoy with a record of 35-6.
The Lady Hawks didn’t waste any time letting LeRoy know they were there to win, scoring four runs in the first inning, followed by two more in the second and one in the third.
Meanwhile, Flowers, who was again pitching for the Lady Hawks, held the LeRoy team scoreless. Due to the 10 run rule at the State level, the game was called in the fifth inning with Carrollton winning the Championship game 10-0.
The Lady Hawks bats were on fire as all 9 starters batted in the first inning. Brookelyn Eilerman led the team with three hits, knocking in two runs. Megan Camden had three RBI’s and Hannah Uhles had the team’s only home run in the tournament, ending the day with two RBI’s.
Brooklyn Eilerman was three for three at the plate knocking in two RBI’s.
Flowers pitched five innings allowing only four hits while striking out six. She went three for two at the plate scoring two runs.
