A Greene County man will be spending the next six years behind bars
Greene County States Attorney Craig Grummel announced on June 10 that Chanse E. Stewart, 26, of Greene County, has been sentenced to six years in the Illinois Department of Corrections following his conviction for Aggravated Criminal Sexual Abuse, a Class 2 felony.
The sentence was imposed by Greene County Circuit Judge Zachary Schmidt on June 9 after Stewart pleaded guilty to engaging in sexual conduct with a minor who was at least 13 years old but under the age of 17. Stewart, who is more than five years older than the victim, will also be required to register as a sex offender for life.
“This office is committed to protecting victims—especially the most vulnerable members of our community,” Grummel said. “Sexual crimes against minors are among the most serious offenses we prosecute, and I will continue to seek meaningful prison sentences in cases like this. The safety of our children and the integrity of our communities depend on it.”
Grummel also expressed appreciation for the Roodhouse Police Department, whose investigation was essential to the prosecution.
“I want to thank the Roodhouse Police Department for their diligent and professional work in this case,” Grummel said. “Their efforts helped ensure justice was served.”
