A Carrollton native is helping bring national conversations about addiction and mental health into focus — and his next guest will be one of the most recognizable former child actors of the 1990s.
On July 7, Jeff Allen, a Carrollton High School graduate, will release a new episode of his podcast Pondoff’s Anonymous featuring actor Shaun Weiss, best known for playing Goldberg, the goalie in Disney’s The Mighty Ducks films.
Weiss’ struggles with meth addiction became national headlines several years ago after a viral 2020 arrest photo shocked many who remembered him from his early acting career. In the years since, Weiss has achieved long-term sobriety and become an advocate for others working through addiction and recovery.
“I’m excited to sit down with Shaun because his story reflects exactly what we try to highlight on the show — that recovery is possible, even after very public struggles,” Allen said ahead of the recording. “We’re not interested in just headlines. We want to have real, honest conversations about the hard work of rebuilding your life.”
Allen serves as co-host and producer of Pondoff’s Anonymous, which records weekly at Illinois Recovery Center in Swansea, IL. While Allen is not in recovery himself, he describes his role as “recovery-adjacent,” bringing a strong mental health advocacy perspective to conversations that speak to both those in recovery and their loved ones.
The podcast originally launched in 2020 and relaunched in 2025 with a growing audience. Each week, the show features unscripted conversations about addiction, trauma, identity, and healing, often with guests who share their own deeply personal experiences.
“I know how hard it can be to talk about addiction, especially growing up in a small town like Carrollton,” Allen added. “If someone back home hears this episode and feels a little less alone, or takes the first step to get help, that’s what matters most.”
The interview with Shaun Weiss is scheduled to be recorded on June 30 and will premiere July 7 across all Pondoff’s Anonymous platforms, including Apple Podcasts, Spotify, YouTube, and pondoffsanonymous.com.
