Commissioners respond to flash flooding

The Calhoun County Commissioners will consider a Local Disaster Declaration in response to this past weekend’s flash flood.
“As a board, we need to evaluate all available emergency response tools,” Patrick Simon, Vice Chairman of the Calhoun County Board of Commissioners, said in a news release. “The August 4 meeting will give us the opportunity to pass a formal disaster declaration, which would help us access additional resources and continue the process of working with state and federal emergency agencies.”
With severe damage to roads, culverts and drainage systems, as well as public and private property, residents are urged to report flood damage to Calhoun County IEMA Coordinator Steve Miller.
“The County is asking all residents and property owners who experienced flooding or damage to report those impacts as soon as possible to help with the assessment process,” the release states.
Miller can be reached at (618) 535-0517 or via email at [email protected].
“I’m very appreciative of the quick and tireless efforts of our county employees as they responded to this weekend’s flooding,” Vice Chairman Simon stated. “I also want to thank State Representative C.D. Davidsmeyer for his continued support and assistance. Most of all, I’m proud of our local residents who stepped up to help each other in a time of need — it’s a true reflection of the strength of our community.”
