An explosion in the alley between the Pike County Jail and the United Methodist Church in Pittsfield has resulted in the arrest of Dakota J. Adams, 23, Barry.
The explosion occurred Saturday evening around 7:20 p.m. and was heard throughout Pittsfield.
The Pike County Sheriff’s Department, along with the Pittsfield Police Department responded to the scene and immediately launched an investigation.
Adams was identified as a suspect and was located in Fulton County later that same evening. He was arrested upon charges of possession of an incendiary device and unlawful use of a weapon.
Pike County Sheriff David Greenwood said the investigation is continuing and he is not disclosing what the intent of the explosion was nor why Adams headed to Schuyler County. He did say additional charges are pending.
Adams was due in court Tuesday, Aug. 5 for his first court appearance.
Assisting the Pike County Sheriff’s Office and the Pittsfield Police Department in this investigation was the Rushville Police Department, The Schuyler County Sheriff’s Office, The Fulton County Sheriff’s Office, The Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office, The Cass County Sheriff’s Office, The Illinois State Police, The Illinois Conservation Police, The Beardstown Police Department and The Secretary of State Hazardous Device Unit.
An investigation is still ongoing with additional possible charges pending.
