The Scott County Soil and Water Conservation District (SWCD) has announced several upcoming programs and events.
The first upcoming program being promoted by the Scott County SWCD is a Pond Management Seminar hosted by the Illinois Department of Natural Resources (IDNR).
The seminar will be held on August 21, 2025, at 5:30 p.m. at Jacksonville’s Nichols Park.
The presenter at the August 21 seminar is Blake Ruebush, an IDNR District Fisheries Biologist located in Pittsfield.
The seminar will cover various topics related to pond management, including pond site selection, construction, maintenance, fish species, stocking, harvest, summer/winter fish kills, aquatic plants, and aquatic plant control.

The Scott County SWCD is also promoting a CRP/Restoration field day on August 26 from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. in the Concord area. To attend call 217-243-1535, ext 3, or email [email protected].
Finally, the annual fish sale held by the Morgan and Scott County Soil & Water Conservation Districts is upcoming.
Various fish species including Channel Catfish, Largemouth Bass, Bluegill, Redear Sunfish, Fathead Minnows, Triploid Grass Carp, and Koi are available at different sizes and prices.
The ordering deadline for Triploid Grass Carp is Tuesday, September 17, and an INDR Permit is required. The ordering deadline for all other species isTuesday, September 24.
Payment is required to place an order, payable to Morgan County SWCD or Scott County SWCD. For questions, contact the Morgan County SWCD at 217-243-1535, Ext. 3, or the Scott County SWCD at 217-742-956, Ext. 3. Alternatively, the public may stop at either SWCD office at 1904 W. Lafayette Ave, Jacksonville, or 656 N. Main St., Winchester.
Fish must be picked up Wednesday, October 1, between 2:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. at the Morgan County SWCD office.
