Calhoun County Sheriff Bill Heffington took to social media last week to announce he will not be seeking a sixth term as Sheriff and shared his endorsement for Chief Deputy Zach Hardin as the next Sheriff of Calhoun County.
In his announcement, Sheriff Heffington said he’s loved everyday being the Sheriff of Calhoun County but is ready to enjoy his retirement.
He also stated that he is fully endorsing Chief Deputy Hardin in the next election, saying he knows Hardin is the person the people of Calhoun County can trust and depend on as their Sheriff.
The full announcement states:
“To my friends and neighbors in Calhoun;
After serious consideration, I have decided not to seek a 6th term as the elected Sheriff and Coroner of Calhoun County.
December 1st 2026 will mark 20 years since I was first sworn in to serve in office.
I still love everyday being your Sheriff, but it’s time for me to enjoy my retirement, my family, my grandkids, hunting and fishing.
I know every inch of Calhoun. I’ve hunted coyotes in parts of this county that some people never knew existed.
I also know exactly what Calhoun is all about and what this county needs and deserves.
That’s why I’m fully endorsing my Chief Deputy Sheriff Zach Hardin to be the next Sheriff of Calhoun County.
I know in my heart that the people of Calhoun can depend on and trust Zach to do exactly what I’ve done for 5 terms, which is work for the people of Calhoun and treat Calhoun like our home that we love.
Anyone from Calhoun knows this is a place that’s like nowhere else and we wouldn’t want to live anywhere else in the world.
That’s why I take this so seriously to find the right person to follow after me as Sheriff.
That person is Zach Hardin and I hope all of Calhoun will support him as your next Sheriff.
I’ll have more to say about my time as Sheriff and about my support for Zach Hardin over the next year, but for now I’ll just say this;
