Greenfield Superintendent Andy Stumpf began the Aug. 18 school board meeting by thanking the elementary and high school administration, maintenance and transportation crew, custodians, summer workers and district office staff for ensuring that the district was ready to start the new school year.
“We started the school year earlier than we normally do and everything was under a time crunch this year,” Stumpf said. “We have a really great crew here and I just can’t thank them enough for ensuring we were ready to start the school year on time.”
There was at least one last-minute unforeseen obstacle that had to be taken care of.
“We had a gas leak at the elementary school on the outside by the junior high portion of the building towards the end of summer break,” Stumpf said. “Southside was able to help us find it and get it repaired and then we had someone come in and pour the concrete because it was right underneath the sidewalk going into the junior high end of the building. We got that fixed before school started which was really nice.”
Southside performed some more work for the district earlier in the summer as well.
“They installed the AC units at the junior high so it is nice that we can eliminate those window units and be more efficient now in how we cool the junior high,” Stumpf said. “They had a central heating system on that end; we just had to add the central air to it.”
One thing that Stumpf and the rest of the district is very proud of is that all of their teachers are, or will soon be certified.
“We have certified teachers in every position that we have right now, with the exception of one,” he said. “And that person is in a Golden Apple program and should be certified by the end of the school year, so we are pretty lucky in that aspect.”
