There are plenty of events all summer in Greene County but nothing can even remotely compare to Greene County Days, scheduled for Friday, Sept. 5 through Sunday, Sept 7. There are a variety of events in all the major communities in Greene County, plus lots of food and fun for the young and old alike.
There is a new event this year that is sure to bring in a lot of new faces – wrestling. The City of Roodhouse is sponsoring the New Genesis Pro Wrestling Show at 3 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 6. This show is free to attend for all, both kids and adults.
Following the wrestling, there will be “Show Me The Money” at 4:30 p.m. to benefit Mandy’s Whine and Bark rescue and at 6 p.m. will be the highlight of Greene County Days – the Greene County Days Pageant. The night will end with a new Miss Greene County as well as a new Jr. Miss and Little Miss.
Staying in Roodhouse, Greene County Days begins on Friday, Sept. 5 at 11 a.m. with Whiskey Driven taking the stage in the park. There will be lots of vendors and food trucks in the park to visit until it’s time for the “Show Me The Money”, also to benefit Mandy’s Whine and Bark. At 5:30 p.m. Lauryn Miller will be on the stage to provide the musical entertainment for the evening.
On Saturday, the day begins at 10 a.m. with the parade, followed by Midwest Avenue playing on the stage at 11 a.m. From noon until 8 p.m. there will be a large inflatable obstacle course for the kids as well as many vendors selling their products and food trucks with every kind of food imaginable.
On Sunday, there will be a community church service in the park.
Greenfield has their events at Rives Lake and they take place on Saturday, Sept. 6 with the BBQ by the Lake and Chili Cook-Off and Raffle.
The fun kicks off at 11 a.m. with the Greenfield FFA serving up lunch. After lunch step over and check out Wild Time Exotics Petting Zoo from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. At noon there will be chili sampling from the master chili cookers leading into the bags tournament beginning at 1 p.m.
Entertainment begins at 3 p.m. with Back in the Saddle taking the stage at 3 p.m. Hopefully, everyone has worked up an appetite because there will be a pork fritter supper from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. with Crossroads taking the stage from 8 p.m. to midnight.
The big raffle being held is for a freezer and meat bundle with only 500 tickets being sold at $20 per ticket and need not be present to win. To purchase a ticket, contact: Dave Bishop, Nick Bishop, Ronnie Costello, Danny Dorks, Jr. Hardwick, Chris and Krista Heavner, Jason Hunn and Jeff Richey.
In Carrollton, there will be lots of vendors set up around the square and lots of different varieties of food available for purchase. The Greene County Historical Society will be open on Friday and Saturday with new displays.
In White Hall, there will be vendors in Whiteside Park but the place to be is Lions Park where the 23rd Annual Drag-O-Way Reunion will take place on Sept. 6. Hundreds of hot rods and classic cars are scheduled to make their way to White Hall from many different states.
There will also be hundreds of yard sales throughout the county so empty out those trunks.
