On Aug. 25, Toby L. Seymoure was sentenced to two years in the Illinois Department of Corrections after pleading guilty to the offense of Threatening a Public Official.
The conviction stems from a Dec. 19, 2024 incident where Seymoure knowingly threatened Greene County Sheriff Rob McMillen with great bodily harm and death.
“As Greene County States Attorney, I want the people of this county to know that my office takes seriously any threats directed toward law enforcement officers,” States Attorney Craig M. Grummel said. “The men and women who serve as Sheriff’s Deputies and Police Officers work every day to keep our communities safe, and they deserve to do so without fear of violence or intimidation.”
Grummel went on to say that this case serves as a reminder that words and actions carry consequences.
“Threats against public officials, especially those sworn to protect our safety, undermine not only the individual targeted, but also the trust our citizens place in the justice system,” Grummel said. “My office is committed to handling such matters fairly and responsibly.”
Grummel said he wanted to extend his thanks to Sheriff Rob McMillen, the Greene County Sheriff’s Department, the White Hall Police Department and the Roodhouse Police Department for their professionalism and dedication throughout this case.
“Their collaborative work ensures that justice is served and that our community remains safe,” Grummel said. “We will continue to work together to protect Greene County, to support the rule of law, and to ensure that our county remains a safe place to live, work and raise a family.”
