A juvenile is in custody after a chain of incidents lead to their arrests.
The incident started Sept. 17 when Pittsfield City Police officers received several calls regarding car burglaries and a suspicious person, wearing a ski mask, walking around on the southeast side of town.
Two Pittsfield City Police officers responded and set up surveillance on a residence of a potential suspect based on prior incident involving a juvenile suspect, who had conducted vehicle burglaries in the same area.
While on surveillance, the officers observed the juvenile suspect exit the residence wearing a ski mask.
A short time later, officers observed a stolen truck stop in front of the house and then speed away.
The officers that were conducting the surveillance, contacted a patrol officer who attempted to stop the vehicle on North Madison Street. The vehicle failed to stop and a short pursuit entailed.
The vehicle struck mailboxes and a fire hydrant on Conroy Street before all occupants of the truck fled the scene on foot.
The driver was apprehended walking on Fayette Street, near Madison. The other suspects have since been located.
The driver/suspect was originally released per the SAFE-T ACT restriction, but, after a consultation with the state’s attorney’s office, a no bond warrant was issued. The juvenile is currently in custody and being detained. The juvenile’s identity can not be released due to the age.
Additional thefts have been reported and the investigation is ongoing.
“We are asking residents on the south-east side of town to check their vehicles for missing property. Call the non-emergency number at the Pike County Sheriff’s Office to make a report, 217-285-5011.
