A Greene County man remains behind bars facing numerous felony child pornography charges.
Greene County States Attorney Craig M. Grummel announced that Nicholas A. Williams, 32, has been charged in Greene County Circuit Court with multiple counts of Child Pornography, a Class 2 felony.
The charges allege that Williams was in possession of multiple video depictions of children under the age of 13 engaged in sexual acts.
Williams is charged with 10 separate counts of Child Pornography, which carry a potential penalty of three to seven years in the Illinois Department of Corrections, mandatory consecutive sentencing and lifetime registration as a sex offender/predator if convicted.
In addition to filing these charges, Grummel’s office also filed a Verified Petition to Deny Pretrial Release. A hearing was held on Sept. 25 and the Court granted the petition and ordered Williams to be detained in custody pending trial or further court order.
“The Greene County State’s Attorney’s Office is committed to protecting the most vulnerable members of our community, especially children, from exploitation and abuse,” Grummel said. “My office will continue to work closely with state and local law enforcement agencies to hold offenders accountable.”
Williams is scheduled to appear in Greene County Circuit Court on Oct. 27 at 1:30 p.m. for further proceedings.
Grummel reminds the public that all defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
