JWCC holds events for prospective students and parents

John Wood Community College (JWCC) is offering a series of fall events designed to support current and prospective students as they prepare for college. The Quincy-based institution will host two free FAFSA filing workshops and a Fall Visit Day, providing families with resources to navigate financial aid and explore academic and career opportunities.
JWCC will hold Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) workshops on Thursday, Oct. 16, from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m., and Tuesday, Oct. 28, from 10 a.m. to noon. The sessions will take place in Room B108 at the JWCC Quincy Campus, located at 1301 South 48th Street.
The workshops are open to current JWCC students, high school seniors, and their parents, regardless of their intended college destination. Attendees are encouraged to bring a copy of their 2024 tax return to facilitate the filing process.
Participants will receive step-by-step guidance on completing the FAFSA and other financial aid requirements. JWCC Financial Aid staff will be available to answer questions, explain forms, and help families understand their options for paying for college.
“Financial aid can feel overwhelming for students and parents,” JWCC Director of Financial Aid Chris Genenbacher said in a release from the College. “This session helps families understand what’s required, meet deadlines, and maximize the resources available to them.”
Early FAFSA submission is critical for students planning to attend college in fall 2025, as many grants, scholarships, and work-study opportunities are awarded on a first-come, first-served basis.

In addition to financial aid support, JWCC invites high school students and their families to Fall Visit Day on Friday, Oct. 17, from 9 a.m. to noon at the Quincy Campus.
The event offers an interactive introduction to college life, including:
■ Career Cluster Exploration: Hands-on activities in healthcare, business, agriculture, manufacturing, technology, education, and more
■ Faculty and Student Panels: Insights into academic programs and campus experiences
■ Campus Engagement: Scavenger hunts, career fair-style exhibits, and student-led discussions
■ Admissions and Financial Aid Guidance: Information on scholarships, support services, and next steps
Attendees will receive JWCC swag, enjoy freebies, and experience the welcoming atmosphere of the Blazer community.

Students may select from three check-in times — 8:45 a.m., 8:50 a.m., or 8:55 a.m. — to ensure a personalized experience.
