While much of the fall season centers around football and volleyball at the high school, Pleasant Hill is learning there is more than a field and a court. There is a course, a cross country course.
And runners from Pleasant Hill and Western are keeping it hot.
Cross country started only a couple of years ago at PHHS, but, has already spread to the junior high and high school participation is up from the three member team a few years ago.
Regional cross country action was this weekend and all four of the high schoolers on the team set personal bests and two qualified for sectionals.
The brother-sister combo of Collyn Forbis and Kaylyn Forbis will be heading the sectional meet in Elmwood this weekend. Collyn finished sixth with a time of 16:37.3 and Kaylyn finished second with a time of 20:02.8.
Hailey Harrison did not qualify for sectional action but ran the course in 26:55.8. Louis Barnes placed 21st with a time of 18:03.3.
The weekend of Oct. 18, three junior high runners competed in the state meet. Ella Skirvin ran the course in 16.53 and finished 212th; Carson Kinscherff had a time of 13:19 and finished 152 and Jake Wombles ran it in 14:2 and finished 206th.
